Abstract:
The present state of second and foreign language education in special view of bilingual schools in
Hungary is demonstrated by statistical data in connection with the state
relating language policy and issues. The ratio of the teaching of second (minority)
and foreign languages in education as opposed to the needs of the Hungarian
citizenships, minorities and the European Union is illustrated.
The development of bilingual schools and the education of
minorities are essential following particular features and European directives.
The arisen question is which directives we should follow and how we could use
the benefits of them and fulfil the requirements of the inhabitants of Hungary.
The demonstration of the results of questionnaires that is
fulfilled by learners studying in bilingual schools give points of reference in
their achievement of language learning and personal requirements. Moreover, it
gives basis to further discussion on the roles and
directives of bilingual schools in the new social and political
conditions in Hungary.
