The future roles and directives of civic education in the view of second and foreign language teaching to advance the students’ success in Hungary and the European Union

Abstract:

 

The present state of second and foreign language education in special view of bilingual schools in Hungary is demonstrated by statistical data in connection with the state relating language policy and issues. The ratio of the teaching of second (minority) and foreign languages in education as opposed to the needs of the Hungarian citizenships, minorities and the European Union is illustrated.

The development of bilingual schools and the education of minorities are essential following particular features and European directives. The arisen question is which directives we should follow and how we could use the benefits of them and fulfil the requirements of the inhabitants of Hungary.

The demonstration of the results of questionnaires that is fulfilled by learners studying in bilingual schools give points of reference in their achievement of language learning and personal requirements. Moreover, it gives basis to further discussion on the roles and directives of bilingual schools in the new social and political conditions in Hungary.
