Abstract:

This paper presents my recent research on how students perceive their role as responsible citizens. Taking a socio-psychological perspective and drawing on Michael Kearney's Worldview Theory, an initial set of interviews examine students' interpretation of what being a responsible citizen means for them and how they believe they fit that role. Further, the study is interested in the source, the components, and the temporal, cultural and social horizons of students' democratic values, and linkages to other mental patterns, as well as the ways and areas in which they believe responsible citizens should take part in shaping the world around them.

Key words: responsible citizen, student's democratic values, worldview
