Abstract:

The aim of the study is to determine the attitudes of 7th and 8th grade primary school students towards learning foreign languages. For this purpose, a 40-item scale on attitudes to learning foreign languages was developed. In this context, psychometric characteristics and the findings of the scale were evaluated by carrying out the attitude scale on 408 students studying in five primary schools in the province of Antalya. To determine the validity of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out. Item test correlation analysis was also carried out to determine the discriminant analysis. In addition, alpha coefficient was calculated to specify the reliability of the scale. In the first part of the scale, a questionnaire was presented to gather the personal and educational information of students. The t-test and variance analysis were conducted between the data gathered from the first part and the scale scores.
